Underrated Albums 1 - Bloodflowers from The Cure

Previously, we talked about Disintegration from The Cure, a British band that was born back in the late 70s, and you may be thinking by reading the title: This dude loves The Cure for sure! yes, I do definitely love The Cure.

Regardless of my infinite fascination for the band, I wanted to bring the other side of the albums that this band has created. It's often said that their latest albums are dull and have no essence. The Cure's latest albums were 4:13 Dream, released in 2008, and Bloodflowers released in 2000.

Today it's time to talk about Bloodflowers, one of the most (I consider) underrated albums in music. The 11th record from The Cure was considered one of the saddest and most melancholic albums the band had ever released. Even though The Cure is always defined as a gothic and shadowy band since most of their songs contained a dark - tragic pattern that defined them. There are songs such as Pictures of You from Disintegration (1989) that could make us shed tears galore. However, the case of Bloodflowers is radically different, as Bloodflowers nature is a mixture of sadness and nostalgic sounds that could pierce through your heart like the sharpest knives.

Tunes like "Out of This World" or "The Last Day of Summer" and their characteristic acoustic guitar accompaniment make of this album one of the favorites when you are in the mood to get emotional, downcast, or lugubrious.

Although the album got positive critics from music magazines, the majority of them just gave it a respectable rate. Berger from Rolling Stone stated (n.d) "the album's soft, chewy center, five songs' worth, never varies in rhythm or pace and depends mostly on hard strumming for propulsion." (para. 3) assuring some of the arguments that paid no heed to the album.

On the whole, even though the rates of the album are average, that cannot define a record in its totality. In my opinion, this albums is always being overshadowed by the frequent critics and the outstanding legacy that the bad had carved before. This album is definitely more worthy of recognition.
